THE NEW PORT RICHEY COMMUNITY ART SHOW

I entered “Nocturnal Travelers” in the New Port Richey Community Art show & received the Mayors Choice Award. “Nocturnal Travelers” is a mixed media Acrylic painting 28”W by 48”H of Prothonotary Warblers nesting for the night beside a dramatic sunset on the lake. My paintings are inspired by my photographs.

THE FLORIDA IN ART SHOW

I won first place for my painting, “Nocturnal Travelers” in The Florida in Art Show. This contest featured paintings by 40 artists for the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The contest was held in Tampa’s West Shore Mall.  I was awarded a $500.00 prize.

In her Artist statement, Laverne Williams talks of the ‘Magic Moment’ – moments that catch your breath, make you smile, or touch your heart. “Laverne is a master at catching that moment on canvas.” Says Evelyn Snyder, Gallery Chairman for the Arts Council of Greater Palatka.”After enjoying Laverne’s work at regional shows, I just had to invite her to do a show here for us.” Beginning with an opening reception on Friday August 1st from 5:30 to 7:30, area folks can take home a moment that speaks to you from these wonderful paintings. The display will be in the Art’s Council’s home, the Larimer Arts Center at 216 Reid. St. Regular hours are 10-4 Monday through Thursday The show will be on display through the month until Aug. 23rd.

For many years, Laverne sold her art in shows with her husband, Robert Williams, a full time Watercolorist, Deceased in 2004. “That is where the ‘Memories’ come in” says Snyder – “This show will include a memorial tribute to Robert, showcasing a selection of his original watercolors that are for sale.”

Laverne Williams subjects are primarily Birds, Wildlife, Florida Landscapes, Children on the Beach, Lighthouses, and Covered Bridges. The mediums for her paintings are acrylic, watercolor, and colored pencils, often with the addition of mixed media for emphasis. She uses her own extensive collections of photographs as reference for her paintings. Custom paintings and portraits are available to the clients specifications. Robert F. Williams captured the many moods of Florida in his subtle renderings of birds, native architecture, lighthouses, Key West style homes, boats, and lush tropical landscapes found throughout Florida and its surrounding islands.His images are featured in many commercial settings throughout Florida,

including model homes in master-planned communities, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, H.C.A. Blake Hospital in Bradenton, furniture stores, interior design studios, and Palm Beach County Aids Clinic. Many private collectors also treasure his paintings. Mr. Williams attended Indiana State University majoring in Fine Art, and was an Indiana Covered Bridge artist in scenic Parke County. He was a resident of Tampa then Naples, Florida from 1986 until his death of heart disease in 2004.

In addition to painting full time Laverne Williams, this energetic artist, is involved in several other artistic ventures: She has participated in the Federal Duck Stamp workshop and contest, placing in 1999. When in Indiana she lived and painted in Parke County, which is known as “The Covered Bridge Capital of the World.” She is a member of the Covered Bridge Art Association, owns property there, and participates in the annual show October 13th to 21st. She has been the owner of Art and Rugs by Design since 2005. She designs custom art, custom rugs, and carpets for designers, stores, and for manufacturers. Graduating from Lipscomb University with a Bachelor of Arts, Laverne majored in Art, with a minor in Interior Design. She took graduate classes at Middle Tennessee State University, and received a Master of Science degree in Art from Indiana State University.
